Reception staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors. The job of the receptionist is to ease the flow of consultations of patients with doctors. Many of the administrative systems are operated by the Receptionists, so please help them to help you.

The practice operates an appointment system of up to 10 minutes per patient so please be realistic about the number of problems you expect to raise in a consultation (1 problem per 10 minute appointment). Demand for appointments varies considerably, however routine appointments with a specific doctor are normally seen within 48 hours. There are a number of appointments kept for Patients to be seen on the day (book on the day / Urgent) and they will always be seen the same day when there is a clinical reason.

Please cancel any appointment if you are unable to attend, or you think the appointment is no longer necessary. This allows other patients who may need urgent appointments to be seen.

Receptionists are the engine house of the Surgery, doing a wide range of administrative jobs, answering telephone calls and greeting patients at the counter. At times there may be slight delays so please be patient until they can attend to you.

Data Protection and Your Medical Records

The Practice fully complies with the Data Protection Act 1998. Under the Act patients have a right to be informed whether personal data about them is being processed and have the right of access to the data.

Patients can review the data processed and formal applications for access should be made in writing to the Practice Manager. A fee may be charged for this.
