Your Test Results

If you have had a test carried out (blood, uring, sputum etc), which needs to be sent off to a Pathology Lab for reporting, you may be asked by the Doctor to book an appointment for the results. However, most cases, you will be advised that if you do not hear from the Practice within 14 days of the test, your results are acceptable.

If your results show you are requiring treatment, or if the Doctor wishes to see you in surgery, we will contact you to let you know.

Please be aware all test results are not to be given out until after 2:00pm daily.

Please Note: The Practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection, we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless the person has given permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.

X-Ray and Ultrasound Results

To be referred for an x-ray or an ultrasound scan you will need to be examined by a Doctor and he will generate an x-ray or ultrasound request if necessary. If the Doctor refers you for an x-ray you will be handed a form, which you will need to take to the x-ray facility for this to be carried out.

For information regarding which x-ray facilities you can attend and there opening times, please speak to the reception staff who will provide you with a list of local places.

If you are referred for an ultrasound scan you will receive an appointment in the post with your appointment date, time and location. After you have been scanned your results need to be reported on by the radiographer who is based at the hospital. This means, if you have been x-rayed at a local facility the time needed to send the report to the radiographer needs to be taken into consideration. From here the results are then returned to the surgery, where they need to be checked by the Doctor. This whole process can take up to 2-6 weeks, therefore please be patient.

The doctor may then ask to see you regarding the results in which you will be contacted or if you have not heard from the surgery within 8 weeks your results will be deemed as acceptable.

Patient Specimen / Investigation Results

Any tests undertaken will be dealt with promptly and you will be advised of the usual length of time before we could expect results. You may have to see the doctor to obtain the results unless the doctors have specifically given instructions to staff to divulge them to you.

In return we ask you to:

  • Not ask for routine prescriptions during general consultations with the doctor
  • Telephone the surgery after 2:00pm whenever possible to enquire about results
  • Attend the surgery for pregnancy results, as they are not given out over the telephone
